This elegant antique German china head doll with a porcelain shoulder head is preliminarily attributed to Alt, Beck & Gottschalck (ABG), one of Germany’s most respected doll manufacturers of the second half of the nineteenth century, renowned for producing finely crafted porcelain dolls.

Dating to approximately 1865–1870, this doll is a beautiful example of early German dollmaking. Her delicately hand-painted features, striking blue eyes, soft rosy cheeks, and beautifully molded blonde curls reflect the remarkable craftsmanship and artistic quality of the period.

Measuring 21 inches (53 cm), she is an impressive cabinet-size doll, a desirable size that has long been favored by collectors.

The porcelain head and shoulder plate are in very good antique condition, free of cracks and chips. One of the porcelain hands displays a fine surface crazing line that is virtually imperceptible to the touch. It may be related to the original firing process or to natural age-related characteristics of the porcelain and does not affect the doll’s structural integrity, stability, or overall presentation.

She retains her antique cloth body with firm stuffing, porcelain hands, and displays beautifully.

Particular attention should be given to her clothing. The doll is presented in beautiful antique undergarments and is accompanied by a very old nineteenth-century antique dress. Due to its considerable age, the fabric has become quite fragile and should be handled with exceptional care. The dress beautifully completes the doll’s presentation while also representing an appealing collectible in its own right for enthusiasts of historical textiles.

With her graceful appearance, impressive preservation, and expressive face, this doll would make a distinguished addition to any serious collection of antique German dolls, a museum display, or a Victorian-inspired interior.

Where Every Doll Carries a Story

About the Creator / Gallery

Meet Yana Lamar

I am Yana Lamar, a collector and restorer who turned a late‑found curiosity for dolls into a carefully curated gallery of antique characters.

I seek dolls that carry quiet stories — France, German, Japan, American - bisque girls, shy companions from attics and trunks — and give them a second life with gentle restoration instead of perfection.

In this online boutique you will not find mass‑market pieces, only a small rotating collection chosen for their personality, history, and the feeling they bring into a room.
